REDI

CoE for REhabilitation devices and Digital Instruments (CoE-REDI) Lecco, CNR & Pavia, UNIPV

CoE-REDI will be established to maximize the impact of Fit4MedRob by dealing with various aspects of the exploitation chain from research to the market. Its aims to experimentally assess and develop rehabilitation technologies while performing ecological tasks, also promoting the continuity of care paradigm through telerehabilitation. It will allow achieving a multifaceted experimental assessment of technologies, starting from the purely technical aspects to those assessing human factors, such as usability and user experience. CoE-REDI will exploit the collaboration with the clinical partners involved in the Initiative in Lombardia Region, allowing for real-life testing with patients and caregivers, and increasing the impact on the territory. It will be a leading distributed environment for testing rehabilitation technologies, open to all the stakeholders and to educational programs and initiatives. CoE-REDI will consist of two nodes, based in Lecco and Pavia, conceived to operate in synergy, as follows. The Lecco node will be an assessment and benchmarking laboratory for rehabilitation devices. It will allow testing their performances and effects during the interaction with users. The node will integrate a set of measurement systems and analysis techniques, for a comprehensive experimental characterization of the devices and for the definition and systematization of benchmarking procedures. Data collected by instrumental sources will be made available to scientists, technicians, and medical personnel. The Pavia Node will be designed as a large living lab focused to complement devices with digital solutions for healthcare and personal care settings. It will be an integrated environment suitable for simulating the daily life activities of Fit4MedRob target individuals. Thanks to this environment, new components, sensors, devices, and tools will be modularly tested in the light of assessment, certification, and pre-market approval. In both nodes, the main financial investments will concern the construction of the laboratory rooms and their furnishings, the purchase of computers, instrumentation and sensors (e.g., cameras, load cells, physiological sensors) for the implementation of the benchmarking and digital environments.
